
BARRY VANCURA
Mr. VanCura has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree majoring in Ballet from the North Carolina School of the Arts. His early training in Chicago began with teachers: Edward Parish, Bernice Holmes and Loretto Rozak. He was selected by New York's David Howard to be an apprentice for the Harkness Ballet.

Mr. VanCura has choreographed musical theater and opera, as well as classical and contemporary ballet. He is instructor for the Stage Dance Course at Covenant College and is choreographer for the annual musical theater presentation.His ballet, Amethyst, (which was a UTC collaboration) was televised nationally on Public Television. It won an Arts Award in South Carolina and commendation in New York.
His works, Pocahontas, won first place in the modern category in 1998 and Consolation won first place in ballet in 2007 at the PANOPLY Choreography Competition . His ballet about the holocaust, Gahelet, won "Best Dance Drama" in the Zoie Film Festival of Atlanta in 1999. His ballets, Tennessee Tribute (2002) and Ecclesia (1995) were selected at the competitions as finalists. Yellow (2007), Love Songs (2005),The Genie's Wish (2003) and Free Spirits (1994) also received Honorable Mentions at PANOPLY.
